Rockies President Found Dead in Utah

by ThomasWayne

As reported by the AP and dozens of other outlets, Colorado Rockies President and former NFL tight end Keli McGregor was found dead in a Salt Lake City hotel room this morning. He was 48.

From the AP’s Arnie Stapleton:

Detective Rick Wall said two of McGregor’s associates couldn’t get in touch with him and that someone entered his room at The Grand America Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City and found the 48-year-old McGregor unconscious Tuesday morning.

Police were called about 9 a.m. MDT and emergency workers arrived on the scene and were unable to revive him.

“There are no signs of foul play. … Based on the initial investigation (police and fire officials) did not see anything suspicious,” Wall said. “There is nothing suspicious. At this point it would look like it was some sort of a natural cause or something along those lines.”

Wall said the investigation has been turned over to the medical examiner’s office, which will determine the cause and time of death.

The Rockies said McGregor was on a business trip with team chairman and CEO Charlie Monfort and executive vice president Greg Feasel.

“Words cannot describe the level of shock and disbelief that we all are feeling this morning at the loss of Keli,” Charlie Monfort said in a statement. “Our thoughts, our prayers are with Lori and the entire family as we all try to cope and understand how such a tragic loss could occur with such a wonderful man.”

McGregor is survived by his wife, Lori, three daughters and a son.

I wish the best for his wife and kids.

When I first heard this on TV they said he died of natural causes. I was like who dies from natural causes at 48?

  2. Hartvig Says:

Don’t know the man but 48 is way to young to be checking out. I hope is family is well taken care of.

Too bad, my condolences to the family and especially the kids.

    Darryl Kile?

  5. Raul Says:

I remember when Darryl Kile died, the media made a big deal about weed being found in his room.

Like, really? I don’t even smoke but if I did, and I was going to die, I’d want to be Bob Marley-ed up.

    Hell yes.

  6. Cameron Says:

Didn’t Daryl Kile die of a heart attack?

  7. Jim Says:

Heart attack, strokes, aneurysms, all stuff that takes people out suddenly at a young age. A guy could be in great shape and a congenital heart defect could do him in. 48 is too young and our condolences to his family.

  8. Cameron Says:

Yeah, I’d just expect a congenital heart condition to be labeled as a heart ailment or heart attack on a press release, not natural causes. I mean… It is natural, but it’s not listed as it, y’know? When people say natural causes, I think old age. Blame society and their euphemisms I guess.

We’re going on “day of event” press releases. Even if heart attack was most likely, they probably didn’t know for sure yet, and the blanket “natural causes” statement just means “yes, he was found dead in a hotel room, but as far as we can tell, hookers and blow weren’t involved.”

    I shouldn’t laugh at “hookers and blow weren’t involved”….but I am.
